Forsters and Montagu Evans host knowledge sharing event

On Thursday, 26 April, Montagu Evans hosted the “Next Episode” in the series of Forsters LLP/ Montagu Evans knowledge sharing events. Previously, Josh Myerson and Mark Higgin had shared their business rates insight and experience with Forsters’ real estate departments and it was Forsters’ turn to return the favour.

Forsters’ panel (Hannah Kramer, Ben Barrison, Victoria Du Croz and Richard Spring) reviewed some material issues which may arise for an investor/ developer client when acquiring a mixed use scheme comprising retail, leisure and office occupiers. With a practical focus on potential impact on value and deal terms, they covered topics such as service charge recoverability, CVAs, EPC and MEES requirements, terminating protected business leases when a landlord intends to demolish the premises, the value of a full suite of construction warranties, and the importance of checking valid implementation of planning consent. After the presentation (and a quick quiz on potentially relevant song lyrics) the circa 40 Forsters and Montagu Evans attendees shared industry insight over canapes and drinks. It is clear that the two firms have a number of shared clients and an appetite to build on the existing synergy.

Many thanks to Montagu Evans for hosting. We look forward to a Part III…..
