Patrick Harney speaks at STEP Chicago meeting and STEP Wyoming conference

Forsters' Private Client partner, Patrick Harney, is speaking at the STEP Chicago meeting and STEP Wyoming conference in September 2012.

Patrick, identified as a leader in his field in Chambers Global 2012 and as a Citywealth leader, will be speaking at the STEP Chicago Meeting on 20 September on the following:

“Tax Issues for U.S. Citizens in the UK – Recent Developments “- and will cover:

  • An overview of the UK remittance basis of taxation
  • An overview of UK estate taxation Impact of the U.S./UK estate tax treaty
  • Tax consequences of UK citizenship
  • The three-pronged attack on holding UK residential property through “non-natural persons” (which include US LLCs and other entities)
  • The new statutory residence test

“Divided by a Common Language! - Differences between US & UK trusts & trust law”

Patrick is an international private client lawyer with experience in private client tax and trust planning in the UK, Ireland and New York. He specialises in UK tax planning for non-domiciliaries and he has particular experience in UK-Irish tax planning and US-UK tax planning from the UK side. He has written and lectured extensively on US-UK tax and estate planning in both the US and the UK and is a regular speaker on cross-border US-UK tax matters at STEP events in the US. He advises high net worth individuals on the tax efficient structuring of property transactions. He also advises domestic UK families on wealth structuring and has a particular expertise in the use of family partnerships and family investment companies as a tax efficient wealth holding vehicle.

He is a Chartered Tax Adviser and an Associate of the Irish Institute of Taxation.

He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
