Roberta Harvey quoted in the Financial Times on inheritance disputes

Head of Contentious Trusts and Estates, Roberta Harvey’s comments have been published in the Financial Times’ article entitled ‘Inheritance disputes rise as families go to war over estates’.

The article addresses the 48 percent increase in the number of contested wills appearing before the High Court since 2018. Roberta explains that a further increase is expected given the economic implications of Covid-19, which will add significant financial pressures.

In her comments, she highlights that another factor contributing to the rise in claims is the growing distance between families, leading testators to favour non-family members, friends or charities.

In order to minimise the risk of a contested will, Roberta recommends seeking legal advice to ensure that the will is efficiently and legally drafted.
