Nobody’s fault: Jo Edwards writes for The Guardian on no-fault divorce
Jo Edwards, Head of Family, wrote a piece for The Guardian making the case for a no-fault divorce system that would free spouses from apportioning blame for the breakdown of their marriage.
Within the article, entitled ‘Nobody’s fault : why does the state trap people in unhappy marriages?’, Jo cites numerous firsthand examples drawn from her day to day practice, of witnessing the damage caused to families by the need to apportion blame in a fault-based system, often resulting in unnecessary conflict between separating couples and having lasting effects on children. Jo continues to call on policymakers to reform the law and recognise the need for a more dignified process.
